A regular sen-ice of instantaneous trans-Continental transmission of news and photographs over telephone wires is to be commenced on April 1. Officials "of American Telegraph and Telephone Company state that the apparatus has been perfected and that the photographic service is to be placed on a commercial basis. It will be specially designed for newspapers. Photographs sin by 7in can bo transmitted in 7 minutes. The cost will be 50 dollars from New York to Chicago and 100 dollars from New York to San Francisco.

The work of improving the transmission of photographs has developed rapidly. The first, experiments produced crude results, but the latest photographs are only distinguishable from the originals by the use of a magnifying glass, although the same general method is used.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
