CANTERBURY MARKETS. (By Telefraph.—Pres3 Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Potatoes are a little easier than a few days ago, and are now quoted at £3 15/ to farmers on trucks. The shipping trouble is having a bad effect on business for the reason that it is impossible to get stuff away, no boat being available for Auckland or Wellington. A merchant stated to-day that the position was most annoying from his point of view, as business was just beginning, and now it had stopped again. Iv the meantime no potatoes were being dug. the tubers not being ripe, and consequently not in a fit state to keep for any length of time. One phase of the present position was that it would result in Auckland using up all the stuff it could get from Pukekohe and Rangitikei, which would cause a spurt in Southern grown potatoes when the shipping position became fcormal again. Onions have gone up again during the last few days and are quoted at £5 10/ a ton. Trade in these is also affected by the shipping hold-up, as about 75 per cent of the locally grown onions'are sent north.

Chaff remain* on much the same footing as it did at the end of the week.

Cocksfoot is a little easier. Merchants are reducing the price of Akaroa seed from 9d to Sd.

The market for oats is quieter, sellers asking 4/6 for A's, 4/1 for B's, spread delivery and April delivery.
