NEGLIGENT DRIVER.
DEATH OF A MOTORMAN. GEORGE DENTON GUILTY. "Guilty of negligent driving, caused by inexperience in handling bis motor car," xvas the verdict returned by the jury at tlie Supreme Court in the case of George Denton, builder, of Auckland. xvho was charged xvith having unlaxvfully killed William Campbell, tramway motorman. on November 29, thereby committing manslaughter. Mr. Justice Reed intimated that he considered the verdict carried a recommendation. Campbell died in the Auckland Hospital about a fortnight after being knocked down by accused's motor car in Great South Rottd, near Momona Road, while crossing the road to record his time on the tell-tale clock. Mr. Northcroft sought bail for Denton xvhen prisoner appeared in the dock this morning. He asked that till his Honor xvas in a position to pass sentence Denton be released on a bond of £100. ( The. Crown Prosecutor agreed to this suggestion. Two bondsmen were immediately furthcoming, and prisoner, with them, acknoxvledged himself bound. He xvas remanded for sentence till Friday, February 13.
