DISEASE IN RABAUL.
CONTROL BY MEDIC-NE. AUSTRALIAN DOCTOR'S FAITH. i.neceiveil 1 p.m., SVDNKV. this day. I>r. i iiento. the- Director of Health at Kabaul. who is at present in Sydney, said lluit malaria is still widespread in the territory, but. he believed it could be readily brought under control in most of the centres covered by the Administration.
The possibility of smallpox coming from Ihe Fast was. however, a menace to Australia. Heferring to smallpox, Dr. Cilento said that the whole of the ports of entry to the sland group were less than 14 days fr_m the infected coasts of China and the Fast In general. As a consequence, stringent precautions had to be used to prevent, the introduction of the disease. The Administration was wisely coping with the menace by forbidding Ihe landing of any person not vaccinatord; also by vaccinating all natives within reach.
Medical patrol was extending its operations further afield, and was constantly opening up new areas, where white men had not previously visited.— lA. and N.Z. Cahlc.)
