m -- . — - N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. RELINQUISHED BY AUCKLAND. The situation relative to the letting of tenders for the championship medals to be competed for at the New Zealand Amateur Athletic -Association meeting of 192.5 in Auckland reached an acute stage yesterday, and finally resulted in the local centre waiving its right, to hold tho carnival. In response to communications from Auckland Mr. \ ictor Hugo. Hon. secretary of the New Zealand Council, telegraphed yesterday: "Invite competitive tenders for standard design medals, gold fifteen carat, as per specifications my letter of 20th December. Quotations must reach mc not later than .lanuarv 24th."' To this Mr. W. Morton, hon. secretary Auckland centre, replied: -'Does council intend to accept lowest Auckland tender: otherwise am afraid eontre will relinquish championships. Kindly advise to-day. meeting evenine." Last evening Mr. Hugo wired: "Not necessarily, previously accepted Auckland tenders championships elsewhere. Policy unchanged.'" This broiif-ht about the climax, and in reply the centre secretary sent the following: "Auckland centre more than surprised relative championship medals, anil therefore relinquish meeting of 102."")." With Mie practical certainty that the lfl2-> championships will not be held bore, the Auckland centre will now concent rate its energy upon the provincial championships. It is worth mentioning that at. a meeting of the Aknrana Hub held on Monday evening a resolution was carried upholding the action of its delegates on the centre in declaring in favour of championship trophies in Auckland lieing supplied by Auckland jewellers.
