NORTH SHORE'S AMBULANCE.
• , When an accident happened in Devonport through a carpenter falling off a (ladder yesterday the criticism which has j taken place during the holidays because | the new motor ambulance which is to be I stationed on the X'orth Shore, was not 'available, found fresh voice. In explaining the position. Mr. VV. K. Howitt said • that the chairman and members of the I Board were unanimously of the opinion I that the ambulance should be in its I place as soon as possible. sle would like to point out, however, that the ambulance which was now on the water on its way out from England would be of a class that there would be nothing superior to it in the Dominion, in fact. it, was expected that it would be the j last word in ambulances. .If ho had I unduly pressed for an ambulance before Christmas, as so many of the residents had wished, not such a suitable .-lass of vehicle would have been sent to the Xorth Shore, and temporary benefit i would have been gained with less perj manent results. Personally he would j have liked to have seen an ambulance i built of New Zealand wood by Xew Zealand workmen, but it was purely a i question of £ s d, and the new ambii- ■ lance was of British make. The new ; ambulance was being bought out of ordinary revenue and no subscriptions were being asked for. as had been the case with all the other ambulances in the city. The Devonport Borough Council had agreed to housp the ambulance and find a driver. It should tie lin its place sometime in March.
