DARING MOTOR HOLD-UP.
ROBBERS ON LONELY ROAD. "HANDS UP" CALL AFTER CHASE. ADELAIDE, December 20. The hold-up of two motorists at the point of a revolver by a masked man, who fired three shots, was reported from Snowtown, 117 miles from Adelaide, at one o'clock this morning. Investigations led members of the C.I.D. to interrogate a man at a city hotel at 6.30 a.m. He was arrested, and charged with highway robbery. Between 10 and 10.30 on Thursday night, Edgar Russell and James Rymer, residents of Port Pirie, were journeying from Balaclava to Snowtown, and when about seven miles from the latter town, saw a stationary car on the road. Deciding that there was a risk in stopping at that time in such a lonely place, the two men passed on, but had not gone very far when they saw the other ear following them at high speed. When the car got abreast of them the driver edged the other car over to the side of the road, and called on them to stop. "Russell and his companion speeded up, and secreted their money. Just then the man drew a revolver, arid fired two shots across the front of their car. They stopped, and getting out on the road, were ordered to put their hands up, and the man rendered their car useless by removing the brushes from the magneto. Mr. Rymer was forced to hand over money. A movement on the part of Mr. Russell and his companion aroused the man's suspicion, and he fired a shot in the air. He then drove off. The two motorists reached Snowtown at one o'clock, and reported the- occurrence to the police. A mounted constable picked up the tracks of the robber, and followed them towards Balaclava, whihs detectives and plainclothes men from the city found the car abandoned. j
