AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.
EVENTS AT KATKOHE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) KATKOHE, this day. A big crowd gathered at Kaikohe on Saturday for the annual axemen's carnival and sports' meeting, for which fine weather prevailed. The sawin" events were eliminated from the programme and also the adult running events. Results:— Maiden Standing Chop (£7). 12in block: M. W. Croft 1, K. Peneha 2. Ten starters. Axemen's Cup (£27), 15in block: D. Wihonga, 12sec, 1; W. Marunga, lOsec, 2; J. Nehi, 12sec, 3. Twenty-one starters. Open Chop (£6), 12in block: D. Wihongi, Csee, 1; J. Larkin, scr, 2. Fifteen starters. Underhand Chop (£6 10/): W. Thorburn, losec, 1; W. Marunga, 2; Pou Tau, 3. Sixteen starters. Won easily. Ladies' Chop (trophy), Bin block: Mrs. Peineha, Bsec, 1; Miss A. Cooper, lOsec, 2. Four starters. Consolation Chop, 12in block: W. Thorburn, 1; W. Marunga, 2. The rest of the programme was devoted to juvenile events.
