GIRL BATHERS IN DANGER.
A TIMELY RESCUE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. But for timely intervention an incident at Hamilton Lake yesterday afternoon would probably have had serious consequences. There was a large number of swimmers in the water at the time, and Mr. H. P. Meyer, caretaker of the Municipal baths, who was standing on the edge of the jetty, had signalled his daughter, aged 16 years, to come in to shore. When she was approaching the jetty a companion, about eight years of ago, playfully jumped on Miss Meyer's back, and, entwining her arms around her neck soon had her in difficulties. Mr. Meyer, realising the danger to the swimmers, divested himself of his coat and hat, and promptly dived in, bringing both swimmers to the bank, where they quickly recovered from their rather startling adventure.
