OLD MAN DEAD.

INEBRIATES IN A CEIX. TOUR MALTESE CHARGED. (Ileceivecl 1.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. As the result of an investigation by detectives into the circumstances attending tho death of James Dwycr, aged 76, an inmate of the Old Colonists' Home at Royal Tark, who died in a police cell after being locked up for drunkenness, four Maltese were arrested and charged with murder. Deceased, after his arrest, was placed in a cell with these four Maltese, who were also charged with drunkenness, and they were afterwards admitted to bail. A couple of hours later Dwyer was found lying dead in the cell with several wounds in his face, and eleve« ribs broken and the cartilage torn off his breast bone. Those arrested are Phillipo Schembri, Yineenzo Pisani, Joseph Muscat and Paul Sliba.
