HOME FOR SICK CHILDREN. CEREMONY AT RAGLAN". The opening ceremony in connection with Brvart House, a commodious building erected by Mr. D. Bryant, of Hamilton, and given, with 80 acres of Im.i. as a con\alcscent home for children, took place on Saturday. Hie institution is at the foot of Karioi Hills, about four miles from Raglan. Bollard. s> Mr. Bryant said he wished to publicly thank his fellow-trustees for their loyal :o operation. He realised years ago that he i-ou'd not carry out his scheme alone, so he selected the best doctor, the best lawyer, the best accountant, and the best farmer he could find to act with him. Mr. Bryant said in giving the home he had been inspired by a Higher Power. 'Hie children of the home would be taught the difference between right and wrong, but the teaching would be undenominational in character. He was in sympathy with all the churches, but lie was himself the special child of none. After thanking all those who had worked, and were working, for the good of the home, Mr. Bryant passed the deeds of the property over to Mr. J. A. Young, M.P. .Mr. J. A. Young, in declaring the home open heartily congratulated Mr. Bryant on the completion of a scheme which he had had in view since he was a lad of 16 years. Tho speaker pointed out that Mr. Bryant had not only donated the spacious area surrounding the home and the institution itself, but was taking on the burden of maintenance, which was estimated to cost about t.'iOOO a year. He suggested that a small local committee should be set up to take tome of the burden of conducting the home off the shoulders of the trustees, who were busy men.
