CHRISTMAS IN ENGLAND. THE DESERTED CITY. FAMILY FESTIVITIES. (Received 10 a.m.l LONDON, December 2C. Christmas Day was mild and fine, and the sun was shining for some hours in the morning. Services in the churches were well attended, and the coming and going of the congregutions gave the streets an aspect of animation which disappeared later in the afternoon, when the West End was without buses. There were only a few taxis and a stray pedestrian or two. London resembled a deserted city. The hotels and restaurants later in the evening attracted a number of diners out, but altogether Christmas Day this year was characteristically English, a family festival with little public celebration.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
