THE SHIPPING WAR.

RELUCTANT SHIPOWNERS. CHINESE CREW DESERT. (Received 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. It is generally believed on the waterfront that there will be no concerted action on the part of shipowners unless their hands are forced by extreme union action. (Members of the Maritime Union are disconcerted by the move of the interState snipping companies paying off the crews of eight vessels. At Melbourne and Geelong the shipowners state that the laying up of these vessels, which are colliers, has no connection with tlio snipping trouble. They would have been taken out of commission in any case this season. The overseas steamer Arabian is held up , at Fremantle, Her Chinese crew, numbering 42, have deserted. They' asked for improved conditions. — (A. and N\Z;)
