To listen in to a concert in Sydney was a pleasure tUiit fell to n party or I'utnnini residents some evenings utro as the gnosis of" Mr. S. MoVWmott, who ta.-is a substantial radio Installation with loud speaker installed nt Mr. M. McDermotfs residence, Mnrchnnt Street. Putaruru. The concert was broadcasted from the llaymnrket Theatre. Sydney, and included vocal and instrumental items. The. reception was surprisingly clear.
Miss Mabel White, of Putaruru, was the trust of her local girl friends at a cift nfti'rnoon at Mrs. C. D. IJrown's residence, in honour of her approachinjr ninrrinfre to Mr. U Ellis. A market; on the lawn, prettily decorated with Rreonery ami flowers, formed the rendezvous for the party, and here, with afternon tea nn ,| miiHic, a happy time was spent. The best wishes of all for Miss White's fohire hnp pinnsa and prosperity were expresßed not only verbally, but also hy an npproprintp giCr from those present. The recipient made .1 very prncofiil acknowledgment in her mode of returning thanks. Th<- 'lenth of Mrs. \V. X Bell which occurred at her son's residence, Ponsonbv Auckland, on December 15, breaks a link with the early days at Tutanini nnd Tirau, her husband, who predeceased her hy some two years, hems proprietor of the local hotel in each place for about three years. This was about six to twelve venrs aen, nnd in both centres Mr. and "Mrs. Bell became popular and widely respected making many friends. Mrs. J. Barnes of rutaruru, is a daughter.
