NEW STEAMER ARRIVES.

HEREKINO FROM GLASGOW. VESSEL'S STORMY VOYAGE. After a three, months' voyage, during which stormy weather was experienced, the new steamer Herekino arrived at j Auckland from Glasgow yesterday. The I Herekino, a small cargo carrier, is owned by Mr. George Niccol, of Auckland. She has a high bridge amidships, the engines and bunkers being aft. On the fore deck, are two large holds, with a mast between them. She has a carrying capacity of about 500 tons, and on her trial made 10.05 knots. The Herekino brought out in the hold a considerable quantity of machinery cargo belonging to Mr. Niccol, including a triple expansion engine and a boiler similar to those fitted in the vessel, and also other accessories for the engine and boilers. Built by Messrs, Scott and Sons at Bowling, Dumbartonshire, with her engines constructed by Messrs. Aitchison and Blair, Limited, Clydebank, the Herekino was launched at Glasgow early in July and sailed for New Zealand on September 23. Stormy weather was experienced in the Bay of Biscay, and it was deemed advisable to (heave to for several hours. On reaching Port Said on October 13, bunkers were replenished and fresh water taken on board. The Herekino resumed her voyage to Colombo, arriving there on November 3. At this port the master and mate left the vessel and were succeeded by CapUin D. M. Culloden and Mr. J. f armichael, who brought her' to Auckland. After leaving Colombo on November 15, fine weather was met with jn the Indian Ocean until nearing the Australian coast, where the vessel ran into stormy weather. Fremantle was reached on December 3, and, after fresh supplies of water, stores and enal were obtained, the voyage was continued three days later. Until the Tasman Sea was reached very rough weather was encountered off the Australian coast. However, fine weather prevailed in the Tasraan until Cape Brett was sighted last Thursday night. For sev- ; eral hours the wind blew with violence, ' accompanied by torrential rain. The Herekino's officers expressed their i satisfaction of the manner in which the vessel behaved in rough weather, and they all regard her as a splendid sea boat. The vessel was this morning berthed at the North Wall to refit.
