RAILWAY CARRIAGE.
! (To the Editor.) I Sir.—A party of 23 students recently visited Tongariro National I'ark. The groceries were consigned from Aucki land by a local grocer over a week I previous to the date on which they were ] received. Even then three cases were 1 missing. We discovered later that our ! order had been "dumped" at Taumaruj nui. For four days we existed on por- ! ridge and bread, most of it borrowed I from the caretaker. Several of the ! party were obliged to tramp an additional 46 miles to find our missing provisions. -After four days on starvation 1 diet, a part of the goods arrived, but, I alas, no meat or potatoes. This prevented us from carrying out our full [programme of climbing the three mountains: owing to the railway's blunder we were only able to do Ruapehu. At ! a time when therp is so much talk of , new efficiency, this episode is interesting.—We are, etc., TWO OF THE SUFFERER?.
