LOAN APPROVED.

RAISING OIJ £100,000. MOUNT EDEN DRAINAGE. The proposal to raise a loan of £100,000 to carry out an extension of the drainage scheme in the borough of Mount Eden was placed, before the ratepayers of the borough yesterday, and carried by an overwhelming majority. Only about 15 per cent of the ratepayers voted, but this may be accounted for by the fact that a large majority were already on the drainage system, and had, therefore, refrained from voting yesterday. Only 785 ratepayers recorded votes, which were cast as follows:— For the proposal 306 Against tbe proposal 189 Majority for 407 The area to be covered by the loan is what is known as the southern zone, taking in from Balmoral Road to Boundary Road, and sections in between. It is not intended to place the whole of the £100,000 at once, but to dispose of the debentures as required during the progress of the work.

Plans have already been prepared for variobß portions of the work, and for sections of the work between Edenvale Road and Wynyard Road, and between Wairiki Road, Mount Eden Road and Tui Street, tenders were already being called and were returnable at the next council meeting.
