USEFUL EDUCATIVE ACTIVITIES. VARIETY, GROWTH AKD PROGRESS. Some interesting facts of the growth and progress of the W.E.A. movement wore given last night by Mr. L. A. Slander, tutorial director of the association, wlicn responding to a presentation of a handsome poeketbook from the Birkenhead class, in Uie Foresters' Hall, Birkenhoßd. Mr. A. G. Osborne. who matte the presentation, referred to the extremely helpful cour?e of study on modern International Belationa just successfully concluded by Mr. Mandcr, and paid a tribute to the useful educative work of the Workers' Educational Association. Mr. Mander. in reply, stated that there were now 1400 'students enrolled in the Auckland district, and a stall of Iβ tutors engaged. The ]!)24 session had been a most successful one, one class maintaining a membership of over 200. He hoped that increased activity and usefulness in the future was foreshadowed by the extra Government grunt of £375 recently passed by Parliament. The wide range of subjects covered by' the W.E.A. was discussed by Mr. Mander, this embracing astronomy, modern drama, social science, health of the body, public speaking, applied psychology, "growth of British democracy, international relations, elocution, singing, Maori folk-lore, modern poetry, co-oper-ation, psychology of the adolescent, geology, botany, appreciation of art, and ii net of literary recitals. During flic evening Mr. K. AJdridgc, tutor of the Xorthcote W.E.A. class was also presented with a leather wallet from that branch of the organisation. He responded with fin amusing versical travesty of the personnel of the class. Musical items by Misses Martin and Yazcv, Mi's. Henderson and Messrs. Woolley and McUee, with recitations by Mr. Brodic, interspersed with dancing, completed a very enjoyable evening.
