CONFISCATED FORTUNE.
OVER £1,000,000. MUST BE RETURNED. COLOMBO, October 13. From twelve to thirteen millions of rupees (£1,200,000 or £1,300,000 at par) will have to be returned to Siegmund Freudenburg, who was a' partner in a leading house of German merchants in Ceylon before the war. Freudenburg considered to be a'German national, was interned with his 'brothers in the early days of the war. Later he was transferred to Australia as a prisoner. The Secretary of State now cables that Freudenburg'has proved that he was a British national at the date of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles for the purposes of the treaty. Presumably this is because he was born in Ceylon, although, according to German law as framed before the war, he was a German subject.
