A HUSBAND'S OFFER

DIVORCE MINUS PUBLICITY. ARMY OFFICER EXPOSED. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 21. A strange divorce case is reported, wherein- a husband offered his wife evidence of infidelity justifying divorce if he was assured there would be no publicity, as , this would necessitate resign-ing-his commission in the Army.

Captain Edsell, Hampshire Regiment, wrote to his wife's solicitors: "My letter to wife, written Waldorf Hotel, confessing infidelity, must be returned immediately, in order that I may destroy it and send you another. I wish to make the letter shorter." Esdell also threatened to defend the action if the name of his regiment was published.

Justice Horridge "described the letter as shocking, and he granted the wife a, decree. Edsell's effort to interfere with the discretion of the Press naturally resulted in the utmost publicity.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
