AMERICAN WOOL TRADE.

ANTIPODEAN PRICE EFFECTS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 16. The continual advance of the raw wool market, particularly in primary fields, notably in Brisbane and Sydney sales recently, has brought many of the buyers of the United .States into the markets. They have found further resistance futile, although purchases have bren along conservative lines in New York, Boston am , Philadelphia. Considerable business in limited stocks has been done by leading dealers and importers at higher levels than during recent weeks, practically the whole list moving up one to five cents on domestic grades, and as much as 10 cents to 12 cents on Australian and New Zealand varieties, based on the Brisbane prices currently established. The demand is quite general from the coarse to the fine sizes, though the latter are still favoured to some extent. Manufacturers are placing orders in anticipation of requirements for spring business in light-weight fabrics, but this movement is hampered by outlet uncertainties. However, wool dealers look for improvement as mill books show expansion in the next few weeks. The following gives some idea of the current prices in Boston for antipodean wools, embodying recent advances.—Australian, clean basis, in' bond: 64-70's, combing, 1.42d01. to 1.45d01; 64-70's, carding, 1.25d01. to 1.30dol; 58-60's, 1.07d01. to "l.lOdol; 56's, 85 cents to 96 cents; 50's, 75 cents to 78 cents. • New Zealand, grease basis, in bond: 50-58's, super, 53 cents to 55 cents; 48-50's, super, 45 cents to 47 cents; 46-48's, super, 42 cents to 43 cents; 44-46's, super, 36 cents to 38 cents. According to a statement issued in Boston the tendency of wool prices continues strongly upward, although .the active advance during the early part of September was by no means *big. In the previous fortnight prices advanced in the grease, a cent or two a lb, depending upon the condition of. the wool in question, but for this time of the year the market is phenomenally strong on both sides of the Atlantic!
