ARABS AT WAR.
GILBERTTAN STRATEGT. LONDON, October 20. The special correspondent of the "Daily Chronicle" at Jedda says that the Hcdjaz war has assumed a Gilbertian character. Nearly all the food supplies destined for Mecca, where the hostile Wahabis are in possession, come through Jedda, to which town the new King, Ali, was recently driven by the tribesmen. Ali. could starve the Wahabis out of Mecca, | provided that he could also defend Jedda,, which is doubtful. | His fear of inviting an attack by a hungry foe, and pressure by leading townsmen at Jedda, have induced Ali to take the safest course. Thus the curious spectacle can -be witnessed of an army allowing the passage of food destined for its enemy.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
