GREAT SURGEONS CONFER.

WORLD-IMPORTANT CONGRESS INTERNATIONAL GATHERING. NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTED. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) I NEW YORK, October 20. I A group of eight X ew Zealand and i Australian surgeons has arrived here to , attend the 14th annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons : which opens to-morrow. It will be , attended by 2fi(lO surgeons from North and South America and Europe. Tbev will include Dr. Walton (London), Professor Rothier (Switzerland), and Professor Putti (Bolonga). On the first day Sir Lindo Ferguson (Dunedin) will speak on "The University Hospital, Dunedin," Dr. J. ,S. Elliott (Wellington) will give an address on "What the New Zealand Division of the British Medical Association is Doing Toward Improving Hospital Efficiency for Practitioners and Medicine." Dr. Royle (Australia) will deliver the John B. Murphy oration on "The Treatment of (Spastic Paralysis, and its Experimental Basis." Dr. J. 1. Hunter (Sydney) will also speak on the significance of this work. On the second day Dr. A. R. Falconer, medical superintendent of the Dunedin Hospital, will discuss, "Hospital Administration in New Zealand."" Dr. Devine (Australia) will speak on "The Basis and j Principles of and New Operations Under ('"stric Surgery." Sir Lindo Ferguson ■ will speak on the subject of "Eye, F.ar, Throat and Nose Surgery." Mr. Carrick Robertson (president* of the Auckland branch of the 8.M.A.) will give an address on "Septicaemia and Intravenous Injections." On the third day Drs. Boyle and Hunter will take part in a formal discussion on spa-stic paralysis. On the fourth day Dr. Ralph Worrall (Sydney) will deal with "The Treatment of Telvic Suppuration." AUSTRALASIANS ENTERTAINED On the fifth day honorary fellowships will be conferred on Dr. R. If. Russell , (Melbourne), Dr. Worrall, and Sir Lindo j Ferguson. Dr. Russell will give a lecture upon I a special topic. ! While en route to New York the New I Zealand and Australian surgeons visited the hospitals in many cities, including Chicago and Cleveland. Drs. Royle and Hunter gave several demonstrations in these cities of their work in cases of paralysis. They were received with great interest. Dr. Devine gave demon- , strations and a lecture at the Mayo ! clinic, Rochester, in connection with I gastric surgery. I The members of the party have been ! very well received. They have been entertained by surgeons throughout America, the feeling being that the visit of the Australian and New Zealand surgeons will open up an exchange of surgical thought between the three countries which will doubtless result in more intimate scientific relations.
