The match was declared drawn. NEW SOUTH WALES WINS. INNINGS AND 193 RUNS. MAILEY'S DEADLY " GOOGLIES." (Received 0.30 a.m.) SYDNEY", this day. The Howell benelit cricket match was continued yesterday in fine weather and on a good wicket. Australia, in their first innings, scored 310 runs, as against 045 knocked up by New South Wales. Kelleway took three wickets for 52, and Mailcy five for 97. The remainder of Australia's wickets were quickly disposed of. Hornibrook was the only batsman to make a decent showing against the bowling of Kelleway and Mailey. Jack Gregory proved ineffective with the ball, his record being nine overs, 41 runs, no wickets. Australia followed on, with the proviso that the innings should close at 4 p.m., in order to give some of the New South Wales men who had failed to show form in the first innings another chance to prove themselves. The second innings yielded 142 for eight wickets (Gwynne and Murray 24, V. Richardson 25, A. Richardson 31). With the exception of the two Richardsons and Gwynne, who was lively, the batsmen were much troubled by Mailey's googlies. His record was five for 72. Macartney captured two wickets for 19. New South W T ales, in their second innings, made 118 for one wicket (Andrews not out 50, Gregory not out 56). The match really ended when Australia declared the innings closed at 4 o'clock, the result being a win for NewSouth Wales by an innings and 193 runs. The latter's second innings was only an exhibition. Ratcliffe scored 161 in Australia's first innings. Macartney was again disappointing. He fell to Hornibrook at 8. Andrews and Gregory provided startling cricket. They collared the bowling, scoring rapidly all round the wicket. Gregory was particularly forceful, repeatedly driving the ball to the boundary. His absence from the bowling crease, and a noticeable limp when fielding caused considerable comment. Interviewed, Gregory said his thigh muscles were strained a few weeks ago, and were not yet quite strong enough for bowling. He did bowl on Saturday, and weakened the leg a little, so he thought it had better be put in plaster again before serious damage was done: therefore he did not bowl yesterday. He added that the injured knee was as sound as a bell, and no doubt would stand any strain. Gilligan and Tait opened the bowling. The former takes a run of about sixteen yards and gets up a good pace. He j obtained his first wicket with the last ball of the over. Tait is big and strong. He takes a short run, but swings the ball in hard. Douglas moved rather stiffly and bowled at a moderate pace. — i
