RAILWAYS COMMISSION.
TO THAMES. (By Trlo.-raiKi.- Otvn Corr« , spon<lriit.) THAMES, tliie day. The Railway Commission visited Thames on Saturday and inspected Price's foundry. The Chamber of Commerce waited on the Commission and stated that the present railway services were appreciated, but suggested that time could be saved by the express between Morrinsville and Thames. They also suggested a loop line of light railway to come over the nrw Waihou Kiver bridge to Kopu. shortening the route to Auckland and making direct rail communication between Thames and the longest settled and richest portion of Hi.ur«ki Plains. Mr. McVilly was asked for a siding to Shortland wharf. Ho stated that, a siding had been authorised for sand and gravel for Arapuni which were coming from the Thames roast. The president asked if (lie siding would be permanent. The Commission promised consideration of this point.
