George Rrassil (2S) came up for scntonci] on three charges of failing to account to 11. P. Ilinton for three typewriters, each valued at £23, thereby committing theft. Mr. Robb, who appeared for accused, asked that probation might be extended. Accused had -<"30 in his possession, und would pay this in as restitution. Rrassil was admitted to three yours' probation, and wns ordered to make up the balance of the restitution. FORGED HER UNCLE'S NAME. A girl of 17, IN'oruli Owens, was charged, on fifteen informations, with forging the name of John Donnelly to withdrawal receipts on the Newton branch of the Auckland Savings Bunk. The total amount obtained was JC4U 17/11. John Donnelly stated that accused, who was his niece, had access to his room. On Wednesday last he found that his bank pass book was missing, and, on going to the bank, he found that £46 17/11 hud boon withdrawn. He had not given anyone authority to withdraw the money. The signatures on the receipts were forgeries. Detective Sergeant Issell deposed that, when arrested, accused admitted taking the bank book and forging her uncle's name. She bail pretended to her mother that she was still in employment, whereas she was out of woi'.t, and always paid her mother every week. She had spent most of her time in picture theatres. Accused, who pleaded guilty, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail, £30, was allowed. BREAKING AND ENTERING. Two men, George Robert Muncey (23) and Walter Rnlnicrston Johnston (II), were each charged with breaking and entering the warehouse of M. Segedtn and Company in Vincent Street" nnd stealing live boxes of chocolates, postage stumps, and an overcoat, of a total value of ill 8/. After evidence had been heard Muncey pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence at the Supreme Court, while Johnston, who pleaded not guilty, was committed for trial. WOMAN'S SENTENCE REDUCED. The ease where Arthur Elliott and his wife, Jane Riddell Elliott, wcr-j | each sentenced to three mouths' imprisonment for imposing on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board by falsely obtaining goods and money j valued at over £101, was recalled at the • Court this morning, when application I for a rehearing was made by Adjutant Gordon. * j The Adjutant stated that at the, prev.lous hearing the facts about Mrs. i Elliott's home life were misreprc-! sented. She wns a good mother, and j her children were crying out for her. | In the interests of "the cliildren, she 1 asked the magistrate if he would reduce I the sentence to one of a month, or else j admit Mrs. Elliott to probation. I The ends of justice, would be met if she I was released at the end of a month. } After hearing other evidenae, Mr. I Poynton agreed to reduce Mrs. Elliott's I sentence to one month, but allowed tho I husband's sentence to stand.
