AND GIRL GUIDES. . j EULOGY BY LORD JELLICOE. ' 11 (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) j CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. j Farewell of the Boy Scouts and Girl I Guides of Chriatchurch was taken _his ! j afternoon by the Governor-General and i Lady .Tellicoe. About 400 Girl Guides ' and 200 Scouts assembled in the Drill < j Hall, to whih place the function had ■ i been transferred on account of the wet | j weather. 11 In an address to the boys and girls '! Lord Jellicoe said there was a tendency j nowadays for parents to leave others to look after their children. It was on account of that that the father-and-son ', movement had come into existence. That |> should not be necessary. If parents would support the scout movement they would do a great deal for the good of their children. One had only to look at those then assembled to see that the movement did good. It was very satisfactory to him. and he was sure it was to her Excellency, that the two movements had made so much progress during the last year or two. There had been an increase in boy scouts of some 1400 during the last year. He was assured by the executive, and he knew it from hie own observations, that it was not only an increase in numbers, but also in efficiency and organisation. The number of scout I companies had practically doubled in I the last 12 months. , I It was very satisfactory to know that I there were now a large number of people Jon local committees. He paid a warm tribute to the work of Brigadier-iieneral i Andrew, who. he said, had given up 1 practically all his time in the interests lof the scout movement. The Girl Guides . I had met with wonderful success, and the j progress they had made had been almost I phenomenal.
