LARGE MILITARY DEPOT.

WORK. AT NGARUAWAHIA. } (From Our Own Correspondent.) NGARUAWAHIA, this day. Construction of the large military depot at Ngaruawahia has been begun by the Public Works Department. At present only fifteen men are employed, and it will be a few weeks before the preliminary work has been far enough advanced to allow of the employment of the greater number of men that will eventually be required. The workk at present consists of the erection of accommodation for the workers and administrative staff and laying out the. work ready for execution. The construction of this depot will be spread over three years. The worke to be undertaken at first arc the iaying of a loop line from the railway to the middle of the camp, a length of 60 chains; the construction of a tram line from the end of the loop line to the sites of three buildings to be erected this year; the construction of a reinforced concrete tank on the highest point in the camp, to hold 80,000 gallone of water, which will be pumped up from the Waikato River. The pump is already installed, and the laying down of pipes will soon be put in hand. The depot will, when completed, contain some very large storage sheds. A few cottages for the accommodation of the permanent mili--tary staff will be erected this year. Altogether this is an important public work, and the site is admirably adapted for the purpost.
