ONEHUNGA DRAINAGE.
PLAT RATE PROPOSED. \ Ratepayers in the undrained portion I j of the Borough of Onchunga are anxious ) to have a flat rate for the drainage of j the whole of the borough, to take the place of the differential rating in the ) various areas. ; At present the Borough Council has j no authority to take a poll of the ratepayers to decide the question. In order to obtain this authority the property owners interested have asked the Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs, to insert a clause in the Washing Up Bill to give the council that power. At the meeting of the council last night a reply was received from the Minister declining to do this. Mr. • Bollard expressed the opinion that the j consolidation of certain drainage rates . in Onehunga is one which should be ! dealt with by means of a local bill, to be . introduced to Parliament next session. , The council decided to consider' Mr. , Bollard's reply in committee next Monday night. j ". _ i
