i . ■ li STATION ROAD CONTRACT. i An adjourned meeting of the Otahuhu ' Borough Council was held last evening ' to consider tenders for the construction ' of Station Road in concrete. Tendering ' j showed a wide difference of nearly £3000 iin the lowest and highest tenders. The ' ■ engineer's estimate was £7764 7/2, less 'deductions of £1094 6/, leaving £6070 ■ 1/2, and the lowest tender that of i Messrs. Grinter Bros.-, was £7832 10/7, ■ jless the deductions, leaving £6738 4/7, i I within £68 3/5 of the engineer's esti- i mate. The other tenders were:—Herbert ' Contract Co., £9832 18/3; H. Bray, £9054 , 11/1; New Zealand Roads, Ltd., £10,258 ; 15/5. 1 The contract provides for a carriage- , way of 30 feet, 18 feet of which is con- j crete, 0 feet each side to be tar sealed, and . two footpatlra of- 15 feet each. . Owing to the water mains being defee- { tive, which was not ascertained until , drainage work was being carried out, it j is necessary to provide new water mains, , and the engineer, Mr. A. G. Walker, was j authorised to prepare an estimate of the cost of installing these for the whole 1 of the area to be laid down in concrete. > The council intends to proceed with the • second section of the streets improvement ] scheme, and tenders will be called in i about a month's' time for the construe- i tion of li miles of Great South Road, i The loan allocated for this work is 1 £22,400.
