FIRE AT HAMILTON.
NIVEN'S FOUNDRY DAMAGED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Fire broke out in J. J. Niven and Co.'s foundry in Bryce Street at nine o'clock yesterday morning. When the fire brigade reached the scene- flames were bursting through the roof, and as the seat of the conflagration was about the centre of the large building the firemen* task was not of the easiest. Adjoining the engine-room were sevtral cylinders of acetylene gas, whk-h had they become over-heated would ha v> caused a terrific explosion, attended probably by more serious consequence?. The total damage is in the vicinity of £1000. which is covered by insurance in the Royal tor £7500. The damage i.' chiefly to stock, Trhile about £400 worth of valuable patterns nave been ruined.
