IST. LUKE'S DEFEAT NIT. EDEN.j A CLOSE GAME. ARETTA BEAT UNIVERSITY. The Auckland Hockey Association's championship matches were resumed at Kemuera on Saturday afternoon. On the, main area St. Luke's met Mount Eden,' and a closely-contested game ended in St. Luke's favour by 2 goals to .1. On. the adjoining ground Areta and Somerville met, and after seventy minutes of ■ play, marked by many crude tactics, Areta won by o goals to 3. ST. LUKE'S V. MT. EDEN. After a little delay Giles and Williams bullied off somewhere about 3.30 p.m., the latter getting possession and passing to Potter; he then transferred to HooUiam. The inner right had some trouble, but eventually centred, and Jaffrey turned the ball out of the circle. D. Alexander Initiated an attack, which drifted across the field only to be held up by Rowe, but from a twenty-five bully St. Luke's Were cornered. Gutry cleared the danger, and good work by K. Potter saw St. Luke's corner the browns. Craig was accorded a splendid opportunity to score, but his shot ; was stopped at the expense of a corner. ! Areta maintained the attack, and a sliot by D. Carter was well timed by Stecn. A penalty corner improved matters for the blacks, but 'Varsity cleared the'danger.
