MISSING WHITE WOMEN.
NORTHERN TERRITORY QUEST. (Received 9.30 a.m.) THURSDAY ISLAND, this day. Probably Captain Wilkins, the explorer, and the Rev. Mr. Watson, who is in charge of the Methodist mission station in the Northern Territory, will endeavour to rescue the supposed survivors from the Douglas Mawson. Mr. Watson considers that the best method of procedure is quiet investiga-1 tion by two or three whites whom the, blacks favour. The opinion is expressed that rumours concerning the survivors may be duo to confusion with the fact that during May last two white lady missionaries were noticed passing to the south-west of Groote Island to the Anglican mission station there.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
