FIRE IN QUEENSLAND.
PINE HOTEL DESTROYED. -<» (Received 10.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. A fire at Barcaldine destroyed the Shakespeare Hotel which was one of the most up-to-date houses in Central Queensland. It also burnt two other shops. The damage is estimated at £20,000. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
The population of the whole shire is 2500. The township is 358 miles west from Rockhnmpton, and is on an important railway. The huge area is wholly pastoral, with small numbers of wealthy squatters.
