FIRE IN JAPAN.
THOUSAND HOUSES BURNED. TOWN BADLY DAMAGED. (Received 0 a.m.) \ TOKYO, May 16. The principal streets in the town of Hachinohe, in the Aomori Prefecture, were gutted by a fire which raged for three and a-half hours early this morning. One thousand houses and many of the principal buildings were destroyed. The casualties are unknown.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
