INJURED GIRL'S STOICISM.

9 IMPRISONED UNDER A BUS. Grace Stewart (23) was knocked down by nn omnibus in Cheapsidc. London, and ImI prisoned beneath it, badly injured, for half an hour. I Tbe girl's clothes became entangled with , the driving gear, and although her collarbone was broken, her left ankle sprained, her chest cut, and a muscle of one of her arms torn, it was impossible to reach her until the guards of the bus could be re- , moved. j " The girl behaved like a brick," said an I eye-witness. "Although she suffered terI ribly she talked cheerfully and even smiled. I tried to hand her a little cup of sal volatile, and asked her If she could take it from mc. She replied cheerfully: 'I can't. My arm's gone.' " Strenuous efforts were made to remove the guards of tbe bus to extricate tbe girl, but the driver had do tools which would do this, and she had to remain underneath while the strips were sawn away one by one. Almost all her clothes were ripped off, and it was some time before she could be reached for bandages to be applied. Eventually she was taken to St. Bartholomew's Hospital.
