REPORTED DROWNING.
PERSISTENT RUMOURS. There" were persistent rumours round town this morning that three sailors had been drowned in the harbour last night when tying to get off to their ships, but on making inquiry on the Hood we were informed that they knew nothing of such an accident having happened. One account stated that two mea off the Dragon were drowned, and one man off the Repulse. Another account stated that one man on the Dragon was pulled into the water while trying to hold a boat alongside by means of a boathook. The police received no report of the alleged fatality, and neither had the Harbour Board officials received any knowledge of it. Owinar to the rough weather it was impossible to communicate with the ships in the stream.
