' "That the Association expresses its sympathy with the League of Nations in view of the enhanced status of New Zealand by its acceptance of definite inter-! j national obligations .os a signatory or I I mandatory Power within the Empire, ] ' and suggests to teachers the. advisa- ] bility of familiarising all pupils ! with the organisation, achievement and possibilities of the League," was moved by Mr. Milner, rector of Waitaki High School, at a meeting of the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Association. Mr. Milner said he was a ' supporter of the Navy League as well as toe League of Nations. Mr. Laing (Christ-ihurch) seconded the motion, although he doubted whether it would receive unanimous support. Mr. T. Cresswell (Wellington Boys' College 1 submitted that if the motion was carried in the form proposed it might be regarded as propaganda against I the Navy League. Whatever work had I been done 'by the League of Nations which would impair efficiency of the British Navy was not patriotic. He had a great horror of war, as they knew, but they had to face conditions as they were. He believed that every blow struck at the present moment at the British Navy was p. disloyal one. He asked Mr. Milner to preface his motion with the words, "While there is necessity under present conditions of maintaining an efficient navy. In the circumstances, he would agree to support it. This amendment of the motion was accepted, and was supported by Mr. J. E. Strachan, of Bangiora. On being put to the meeting it was carried unanimously.
