I Health Department's Scheme. j The appointment ot a Cull-time Medical Officer of Health of Auckland City was ' j suv.gcstcd in a communication from the | | Director-General of Health. It was pointed j out that further decentralisation of the I public health administration was considered i dpsirable in the four chief centres. The I medical officer appointed for Auckland will ] thereby have detailed control over his dis- | trict, nnd would be better able to coordinate with agencies for the improvement of tbe environment and health of the citizens, and. being under the control primarily of tbe local authority, would be able to give special attention to special problems of the city, i.e., water supply and milk supply. It was contended by the Department that while the present system led to uniformity in health matters, such uniformity was possibly to the advantage of country districts, but to the disadvantage of the cities. It was proposed that the four chief centres be constituted separate health areas, for which the medical officers would he responsible primarily to the local authority, which would pay half their salaries. On the motion of the Mayor, the matter was referred to the Works Committee, the Town Clerk to specially report for consideration of the committee. Lighting of Safety Zones. The lighting of safety zones was approved. The Manager of the Tramways reported that lie had been experimenting with various types of lights. The Mayor reported in regard to Mariware Reserve, Epsom, the chief area of which was donated by Mrs. R. A. Carr in memory of members of the N.Z.E.F. from Epsom district who lost their lives in the war, that there was a list of twenty-three names.
