SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING.
THE QLAIMS OF AUCKLAND.
SUPPORT FROM THE PROVINCE.
The efforts being made for the establishment of a school of engineering in connection with the Auckland University College, are receiving cordial support from various parts of the province. The latest promise of help in forwarding the project comes from the Thames Valley, a district from which a considerable number of students in engineering come. The registrar of the University College received a letter to-day from the manager of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board, addressed in ( the following terms:—
"Sir.—At my board's monthly meeting, held on the Cth inst., the matter of obtaining Degrees of Engineering at the Auckland University College was
brought forward. During the discussion it was pointed out that quite a number of students, residing in this board's area, are at the present time studying at Canterbury College, owing to ihe : _ fact that they cannot obtain the Degree of Engineering at the Auckland University College. This naturally incurs additional expense and inconvenience, and I am directed to forward you a copy of the resolution passed by my board, which is as follows: —'That the Thames Valley Electric Power Board support the Auckland University Council in its endeavour to obtain recognition in connection with the course of study in Auckland for the Degree of Engineering.'"
