LAWN TENNIS.
TEACHERS', TOURNAMENT.
A very enjoyable competition, played on the American tournament system, was held yesterday on the Birkenhead and Northeote Club's courts by the male teachers of the Auckland primary schools. The courts at Northeote were gratuitously placed at the disposal of the teachers for the occasion.
It was subsequently decided to hold a Similar function during the August holidays, and to include a ladies' double in the programme. Misses A. Wilson. SI. B. Campbell, Messrs. B. J. Corbett (secretary), H. G. Johnston, A. Murdoch and J, W. McGecbie were appointed a committee to make the necessary arrangements. Yesterday's games resulted:— SECTION A. First Round.—Murdoch and Warn (owe 15) 4, versus Patterson and Hayson (owe 3-6) 9; Hayr and Sutherland (owe 15) 9, v. Brew and Entwlstle (owe 30) 3; Stubbs and Metge (owe 3-6), a bye.
Second Round.—Patterson and Hayson 9. v. Hayr and Sutherland 6; Brew and Entwistle 9, v. Stubbs and Metge 2. Third Round. —Murdoch and Warn 6, v. Hayr and Sutherland 9; Patterson and Hayson 6, v. Stubbs and Metge 9. Fourth Round.—Murdoch and Warn 8, v. Brew and Entwistle 9; Hayr and Sutherland 3. v. Stubbs and Metge 9. Fifth Round.—Stubbs and Metge 6, v. Murdoch and Warn 9; Patterson and Hayson 7, v. Brew and Entwistle 9. Section Winners.—Messrs. Tatterson and Hayson, with 31 games. SECTION B. First Round.—Corbett and Brownlee (owe 15 3-6) 9. v. Philpot and Griffiths (owe 15 3-6), 4; Fattison and McGechie (owe 30) 9, v. Slane and Aickin (owe 15) 2; Potter and Johnston (owe 30), a bye. Second Round.—Philpot and Griffiths 2, v. Pattison and McGechie 9; Slane and Aickin 6, v. Potter and Johnston 9. Third Round.—Corbett and Brownlee 9. v. Pattison and McGechie 7; Philpot and Griffiths 8, v. Potter and Johnston-9.
