DANGER TO LIFE.
DRIVING WHILE DRUNK
ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT

"Any man who does an act which is a danger to life and limb deserves imprisonment," said Mr. Widdowson, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning, when lie sentenced a taxi-driver, who had been rdnnk white in charge of a motor car, to. hard labour for one month. The defendant, Thomas John Anderson, knocked down a cyclist last evening and a peVee prosecution followed promptly. Defendant pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and not guilty to the charge of driving in a manner dangerous to the public. The cyclist gave evidence that he was riding a yard from the footpath when he was hit by the. car. He was uninjured. The driver of the car seemed to be asleep. After the accident witness called the police and another taximan, who drove Anderson's car to the police station. A' policeman had to carry Anderson into the station.
Counsel for Anderson, said his client was fairly drjunk, but the cyclirt came out suddenly from the footpath. Anderson had been driving for twenty years. He desired to take out a prohibition order. He had a wife and two children.
The magistrate said he hoped Anderson would lose his license. Defendant must go to gaol for one month.
