ELECTION IN AMERICA.

NOMINATIONS FOR PRESIDENT. j MR. COOLXDGES FRIENDS. KEW YORK, April 21. The chairman of Mr. Calvin Coolidge's campaign committee, Mr. Butler, formally announces that the President has already secured the support of ft sufficient number of delegates to the Republican National Convention to be held .on June 10 to assure hia nomination on the first ballot as Republican candidate for the Presidency. 1 Mr. Butler states that the Convention will consist of 1109 delegates, the support .of 555 of whom is. necessary for the nomination. He says that 5G3 delegates have already been chosen vlio have been instructed to select Mr. Coolidge, or -who have expressed their intention of doing so. . The chief method by which the. delegates receive their instructions is tlio so-called primary, at. which only members of the party can vote. These members indicate whom they desire to nominate for the Presidency at the National Convention. The greater number of the primaries have already been held. The results show that beyond doubt Mr. Coolidge will be the Republican nominee. It is now expected that serious dissension may occur over the choice of the vice-president.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
