BY ROAD TO HAMILTON.

'BUS FULL AT £1 A HEAD. FLEET OF CARS PLYING. "Hamilton £1," "Helensville £1," "Pukekohe." Such were some of the legends done in whitewash on the glass windscreens of motor cars standing outside the Auckland Chief Post Office, and gathered round was a large lunch-hour crowd greatly interested in the revival of the "glories of the road." There are still living people that remember the days when the only way tn the Waikato was by Cobb and Company's coaches, drawn by four dashing horses. We semetimes forget that it was not until 1876 that the railway went as far as Otahuhu. It was only natural that the motor men should jump into the breach, but still it took one several minutes tp getused tp the "Hamilton £1." In the van of the string of cars was this Hamiltonbound vehicle—a strong lnrry with a bus top. A man with a book of blue tickets was booking fares, and it was surprising how quickly he picked up about a scpre of fares fpr his lpng run pf 81 miles. With their handbags under their feet the passengers looked as unconcerned as if they had been only booked for tbe Dominion Road, terminus, and one lady among them seemed equally unconcerned. Auckland to Helensville 13 a run pf 34 miles over quite a gopd road as long as there.is no rain, but the road tp Hamiltpn is not by any means such an easy proposition. In addition to the motor bus that was soon filled for Hamilton there were on the Btand about a dozen taxi cars and other cars all placarded for long runs.
