FIRING IN THE DOMAIN.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The pageant that the Defence authorities are at present staging in •the Domain is being presented on a very elaborate scale, and certainly merits success. But, personally, I think it very unwise, and extremely thoughtless of the authorities to permit the heavy gun-fir-ing. The vivid flashes, and the thunderous roar of the guns might appeal to the spectators and children, but I think it a great mistake that this sort of business should be carried on right alongside the General Hospital, where so many people lie sick and helpless. I know of one particular case where an invalid near the hospital was rendered ill all night and the nest day after hearing the firing on the opening night. The public of Auckland would be quite prepared to have firing eliminated from the present programme for the benefit of our sick brothers and sisters in the hospital.—l am, etc. W. 8.8.
