OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. B. Todd presiding, and the following councillors being present:— Messrs. T. Clements, B. Shepherd J W. Whytc. H. J. Hall, T. Wliiteley, J. Wilson and J. Brady. __~., , A letter was received from the Auckland Harbour Board re discharge of effluent from the various works at **.estfleld on the mud flats, stating that the price of a suggested combined main sewer to deep water would be prohibitive The board recognised the grievance, and suggested a remedy by means of collective tanks. The letter stated that the Health Department would be advised of the matter. The Railway Department wrote hoping that the council would favourably consider the extending of the 4in water main for the purpose of providing water in regard to the erection of workers' dwellings in Nikau Street. The letter stated that the Department would instal the meters, and intimated that the council collect the rates for the service. Owing to the proposal tapping a new area the council disagreed to hearing the sole cost, particularly as the properties will not be I ratable.
