TO CORRESPONDENTS. BOROUGH (Mornlng-slde).—Lady nidirule, although given as an arcop'or I'nr the borough Handicap at Thames on Saturday, did not appear in the olllclal card, evidently having been included In error. She did noi si an. it. Gray Is likely 10 be riding- at Tc Aroita. Tireless was too good for k'illute in a sprint at Ellerslie yesterday morning-. E. Manson will ride Irapuka. Finnote, and Roomerday on Saturday at Te Aroha. W. Rowe injured bis collarbone when .Maplu lell with him at Thames on Monday. Gloaming, wnich won the Jackson Stakes at Wanganui on Saturday, scored in lbat event in 1919, 10? I and \92i. 1. O'shea and H. coldlliich did not wait for Ihe second day of the Wanganui Meeting", hut came on to Thames. Ritholia ran a ralr race at Thames on Monday, when be ran third to Shebond ano Esthonta in Hie Farewell Handicap. Praiseworthy ran one or his best races to date this season when he Ilnished second to Dan Quln at Thames on Monday. Pentagram. Rattle Song and ICaramu went over lour hurdles at Ellerslie yesterday morning. Pentagram looked nice and fresh. Weight apparently troubled Multinl on Saturday at Thames, lor she ran a much belter race on Monday with Ist 21b off her back. Disappointment was among those offered Tor sale by auction at Thames on Monday, but the amount offered tiki not lead to business. Though Loch Abhev finished second to Regent In the County Handicap at Thames on Monday, he was no match ror Ihe winner. Archie rlisappointed his connections at Thames, tor. when training at Kllerslle. he had given encouragement to think he would do better. The racing Vociferate indulged In at Thames should improve him, and be should show to better advantage In future steeplechase events. Shebang Is evidently partial to the Thames course, ror last year she won a double there. Her win on Monday was not out or its turn. King: Cheops. though expected to do belter, failed In back events at Thames. The course and going, however, were probably not entirely to his liking. Gold Bud ran one or her best races this season when she Ilnished third in the Thames Plat on Monday. Only a head separated her from Infante. General Rose, which won over hurdles at Tc Awamuiii. was not produced on the first day at Thames, but ran second tv Laudbird in the hurdles on Monday, lie Is a useful sort. Fiery Lad. which ran third to Dan Ouin and Praiseworthy at Thames on Monday. Is a rour-year-old Campllre gelding owned by Mr. A. N. Dingle. He should do good service for his owner. Conrtemara "begins well, and this had much to do wiih her success at Thames on Monday. She hit the rront early, and was never afterwards headed, returning a double-figure dividend. Opalold. which was taken to Thames Tor the second day's racing, gave his rider (Mephana) an anxious time at the close or the County Handicap, bolting Tor two and a-half rounds before he was stopped. H. Wiggins will attend the first day or the Dannevirke Meeting, and then return to rullll engagements at Te Aroha, where he is engaged to ride Landslide, CurraghmoiT. Miss Lucullus, Finelli and Bretland. The mishap which occurred to Raffcrty on Saturday at Thames evidently did not improve tbe son of Patronus. for. despite all Ihe persuasive etrorts or his rider on Monday he could do no belter than llnish fourth. Raymond, which scored In the Thames Steeplechase on Monday, was improved by his efforts on Saturday. Under a light weight the son of Ouin Abbey is a possibility in forthcoming races over big country. Repent, which ran third at Thames on Saturday to Ilimpo, looked a much better horse on tbe second day, being evidently improved by racing. He won the County Handicap In easy fashion will) 8.10 on his back. The Hon. E. W. Alison's Drolatique was started at Thames on Monday, but was never really prominent. Drolatique is reported to have speed, but II Is stated it requires a lot of attention to get this horse ready lor racing. Jolly Gay owed her victory al Thames to the fact that H. Goldfinch rushed her to 'the front, in the llrst furlong. She then had Hie rails, and made her own running. On the second day she ran well up to form, when she Ilnished third to Regent. It would appear that the Te Aroha sportsman, Mr. .1. MrNlcol, has got hold of a useful mare in Walpoto. She won the Trial Handicap at Thames on Saturday in good style, while she was also prominent in the Kauaorauga Handicap on Monday, eventually finishing rourtb. Peter Maxwell is a back that impressed quite a lot al Thames by the manner in which he won the Puriri Handicap. On Monday he finished third to Coiinemara and Multinl. After being well back at. the entrance to the straight he put In a Rue run, and was less than a length away from the winner at the finish. He appears to be Improving with age. The victory o> t.a'Gy Lois at Thames was not out or Its turn. She won the Avondale Stakes in 10 21. but has not scored in an event since then. On the opening day she was first out, and stayed there, while on Monday she showed up ror half a mile In the President's Handicap, won by Malatour. This event was a rurlong further than she won on Saturday. The loss or Himpo was a serious one to his connections, for the three-year-old son or Hymettus had given great promise, sinre going into T. George's charge at Ellerslie he has won twice and dead-heated for first place once in three starts. He v/as racing in fourth place about three furlongs from home at Thames on Monday, when he slipped, and fell heavily, breaking his neck. L. Mauson. his rider, was cut about the head, but this did not stop him riding and winning on Shebang in the last race. After his good performance at Rotorua, when he ran second to Daylight, It was I conlldenlly anticipated that the lull-brother to Te Kara would improve on lhat showing. This expectation was I'ullllled when he Ilnished second to Himpo on Saturday at Thames ami won on Monday. He was-well back at one stage, but when asked for an effort soon made up the leeway. Though not possessing as much size as Te Kara, it would not be surprising to see him win over longer distances. j At a sale of stock held at Wanganui on Friday, Mr. Currie received 850 guineas for the brother to Loyal Irish (Absurd —Moira Machree) and 400 guineas for the halfsister to Absurdum and Avonlea, by Limond —Holvrood. They were purchased by an Auckland buyer, and it Is likely that they are intended ror Australia. The Panrnure — Cherry Mart nily brought 150 guineas. being"purcnn s ed by Mr. Rlackmore, of Palmerston North. The colt by Absurd— Mlmlque, brother to Parody, was passed in at 150 guineas. He had a bad-looking knee The well-performed Arrowsmith was offered on behalf or Mr. Harold Rrnwn. but was not sold, only one bid, 300 guinea-, 1 being received. Arrowsmith looks very rarv and in fine order. Some or his yearlings' were also offered, along with a couple of Bisogne Allies, but no sales were made.

Surveyor was sprinted half a mile on the course proper at Ellerslie yesterday morning, and moved nicely.

The victory or Arizona Maid In the Thames Plate was mil or merit. She showed up prominently on the opening day. when she ran second lo .lolly Gay. She had registered three seconds previously this season.

Kuhio looked particularly well at Thames. He is a bit on the small side, but has a rail' amount ur pace over a short course. Alter registering a third on Saturday he failed lv get into the money un Monday.

Arier running peciintl in the fioldflelds Cup, Clenidie was thought to he a good thing in his engagement on Monday. However, he railed to begin smartly.' ami did not get too good a passage. On a inure roomy course he may do better.

Owing to Indisposition Mr. R. Wa-nvard was unable in judge at the Thames" Meeting on Monday, and Mr Krnest Alison tilled the position, except Tor one ran the Parawai Handicap—when the Hon. K. v,. Alison hail a burse competing.

After their displays al Thames In tbe back hurdle class, Maude Wilson and Rosuinis are not particularly good. They had every opportunity each day. but failed to return a dividend. Maude Wilson did the better of tlie pair, running third twice.

Oaklelgh. which is looking wen, jumped four hurdles at F.llerslie yesterday morning in good style with ,l. Roach In tile saddle. He will make his llrsl appearance since the lirand .National Meeting at Te Aroha on Saturday, and will be ridden by Run ell.

Dan Quln, which scored at Thames on Monday. Is a three-year-old gelding by i.iuin Abbey—Danseuse, and is trained at. Te Aroha by P. Eva. who has not had the be.*! of luck Tor s c time past. It would not be surprising to see Dan yum add Turtller to his record.

After his good second tn Waipoto on the opening day at Hit: Thames, il was expected that Douglas La tour would make an even better showing on Monday, but be failed to get nearer than fourth in the l'arawai Handicap, lie is evidently no beLter than moderate at present, but may Improve.

Landbird is evidently Improving with racing, and though the Finland gelding took some chances with Ills fences on Saturday lie won both bis races at the right end. and should hold his own in more select company, lie lias more pace man the ordinary hack hurdlers seen out at country meetings.

The r.azeley gelding Bay Boy won the Steeplechase at Thames on Saturday in great style, and returned a trood price. Unfortunately when going well in rront on Monday he broke down so badly that lie bad to be pulled up. It does not appear likely that he will race again for some time.

When Active roll in the last round or the Steeplechase at Thames on Monday be was just making a forward move, lie would probably have lliierl one or the places ir lie bad stood up. It looked as though his rider (Trlcklebank) had suffered severe Injury. Eventually lie had to be sent to hospital. I.ucullent, which Ilnished second in Ihe hurdle race on ihe llrst day al Thames, is a six-year-old goiriing by l.ucullus. am! Is a member or w. .1. McLeans team at cambridge, lie raced at Te kiiiii. and the manner in which he ilnished up his task at Thames suggests that he will improve with experience. The Thames course Is not In favour of a horse like Ksthonla. though he ran into a place in each of his starts at the recent meeting:. With O'Shea in Ihe saddle on Monday be fought out one of the most interesting finishes with Shebang seen Tor sonic time, but was eventually defeated by a head. W. McGonagle. who lo>t bis lire while bathing at Thames on Sunday, was an apprentice in K. .1. Rao's stable al lirceit Lane, and gave promise of tinning out more than a useful horseman, lie could go to scale at a very light weight, and commanded a fair amount of riding. Much sympathy will be expressed with relatives at his untimely end. Landslide was the popular selection for the fioluflelds Cup at Thames, due. no doubt, to his pood showing at Tarauaki. Alter allowing C lonidle to have the lead till about three-quarters of the distance had been covered. Landslide quickly overhauled him, and rrom this out nothing had a chance with the son of Ketillworth. Landslide is right back to rorm now, and should play a prominent part In good handicap events before the autumn meetings conclude. WAIPAPAKATJRI WEIGHTS. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) There was a fair amount, of work al Riccarton this morning, but nothing or a sensational nature. The plough, well watered, was the only track la request. Winning Hit, with Rivalry, was galloped a mile in fair time. He was not out to do anything extraordinary, but his work was quite good. The remainder of Cutis' horses did serviceable work. Top Score defeated the two-year-old flamebag in a smart half-mile sprirrl. View-point registered a good mile, and Hungry Bill and Ttiorndale were rair, ihe last named having just thrown off the soreness which troubled him Tor a long time. .Many Kittle, with a lightweight in the saddle, Ilnished well over a six furlong course. The track Was to his liking. Boadlcea was keen to go further titan the six furlongs alloted her; she is in good nick, and should do well Ibis autumn. i'alestrina. which was entered Tor the Peninsula Cup, was withdrawn again before Hie nominations were published. She is still in work, anil this morning- galloped a mile. There is every reason to believe that she is not too genuine, despite the many excuses made for her. Her stable mates, tiay Queen and Jubilant, were sprinted. Red Wink was outpaced by both Lucinctte and The I'olyiiuiian, but little notice can he taken of this, lor The Polyninian is not a good track worker, and Red Wink requires to be hustled along even on a race day. Limelight sprinted siv furlongs in great style. The little mare Is in great heart. Pilliewlnkie, assisted by Reo Gown over the last two furlongs, galloped six furlongs, going nicely throughout. Ballymena and Mustard Pot, after cantering a round, ran home over the last six furioiiffs, the former doing it really well, though he had the best of the weights. It is understood that Mr. J. F. Buchanan, the owner of that successful sire Martian, is about to re-enter the ranks or owners. Mr. Buchanan has not experienced as corresponding an amount of success as an owner as he has done as a breeder, so that it will be interesting to see. how his venture turns out. The horse he intends to race, is as yet only a foal, brother to The Cypher and The Polymnian, by Martian, from Polvmnia. If all goes well with the youngster It will be given to F. D. Jones to train. ,

The two-year-old filly Schottischc, by Oreyspear— Chanlress. in F. D. Jones' stable, met with a serious accident yesterday through railing over the rail separating the training tracks rrom the course proper. The filly was rather badly knocked about, while her rider, R. Covcny, broke a collarbone.

There was another mishap yesterday, but fortunately the. results were not serious. While the two-year-old Haze was being worked Ills saddle slipped, and his rider. .1. Hall, came off. The horse was recovered without suffering any injury, While the boy got olf with a slight shaking.

The Leeston owner-trainer, Mr. J. II Prosser. has taken possession of his property al Hlccai'lon, formerly owned by It. D. O'Doiuiell, and he is now training Loveslgn and Ooldsplnner.

At headquarters, R. Emerson Is breaking in a yearling lllly by Cay Lad rrom Carol Singer. She is very small, and, from present appearances, it would be no surprise If she eventually found Her way to Australia for pony raring.

The four-year-old Moorland, by Finland —Dui'o. lias been turned out for a spell, lie showed .some, promise as a two-year-old, but since then he has been a disappointment, and ho failed badly in the llalswell Handicap at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting this month. The imported horse Last Dart, by Spearmint—Ultima, has quite recovered from his recent trouble caused by running a nail Into his foot, and R. Emerson now has him in regular work again. 11. J. Mason returned home rrom Wanganui ibis morning: with Gloaming-. Ile was accompanied by P. V. Mason, avho went lo i llawke's Hay last week and brought back ' llic four Absurd yearlings purchased recently Tor Mr. 0. D. Greenwood l'roin Mr. W. C-. stead. F. D. Jones arrived bark this morning from Wanganui with Ulentruiii and Zara-g-oza. F. IP Porter, who took Dame strait lace to Wanganui last week, returned home this morning with the mare which performed moderately in her northern engagements. The steeplechase schooling renccs al Iliccarton are being put in order in preparation for the autumn and winter jumping events. The appropriate name or Snowcap has been claimed for a three-year-old gelding by Young MrKinney from Snowdrift, who is being trained at Oaniaru by .1. Henderson for Mr. \V. yuirk. I'nlike bis well-performed half brothers, Clunmel and Avalanche, who are trotters, Snowcap is a pacer.
