THEOSOPHICAL CONFERENCE.

'STAR IX THE EAST." The annual conference of t!ie Order of the Star in the East, was held in the Thesophieal Society's Hall on December 31. Miss Codd, the visiting lecturer, in opening the conference referred to the growing belief in the near Coming of a World Teacher outside the movement. The various sects and religions of the world, she said, were now definitely teadiing and preparing the world for His coming. A note of expectancy was in the air, and it wag a noticeable change to find so many more interested in helping to change the conditions of the world, rather than seeking individual salvation. Reports were read by delegates from the various branches throughout the Dominion, and showed increased life and vitality in the Order. There were now 1500 members in New Zealand. Self-preparation groups had been formed in most of the large centres, and others were in coimsc of formation. The essential requirements of members forming these- grounps were the ability to inspire, instruct, interest and initiate others into the work of the Coming. The conference ivas closed by the national representative, Mr. j. R. Thomson, with an earnest appeal to all present to go lißck to their various branches and redouble their eiforU and make the coming year one of greater sacrifice and self preparation.
