APPARENT SOBRIETY. . .; NEW YORK, January 2. The New Year has opened auspiciously. Only one instance of death by liquor poisoning has been reported.- This occurred in Chicago. Otherwise there have been relatively few cases of alcoholism. Only 35 persons were arrested for intoxication in New York on New Year's Eve, and the hospitals of the city report no new alcoholic patients.
