INEBRIATES' HOME AT PAKATOA. "Pakatoa. a healthy place with pleasant surroundings, is the finest place in the world for you." said Mr. ('. R. OrrAValker. S.M.. in the Magistrate's Court, Wellington, when dealing with Helene Frazer, alias Atha Krazer, who made her fifth appearance for insobriety and her fourth for a breach of her prohibition order. Sub-inspector dimming* said it was difficult to know what to do with accused. She was iij year? of age, and a hard-working woman, but she made it her custom to save up £-<>. develop a, thirst, and embark on a drinking bout. "Oh. your WorsWp,' , pleaded accused, "won't you just give mc another chance :" "I'm not punishing you." said the magistrate, kindly, "if I send you to Pakatoa. it's the finest place in the world for you, and there you will be looked after. I'll stand the case down, until to-morrow morning." "There is another island noar l'akatoa," remarked His Worship later later, when Thoma-s Joseph McGrath, a thinloffending inebriate, stepped into the dock. "'l'm iifraid," lie added, "that if you don't take a pull you will end up there." He gave the offender another chance, convicting and discharging him.
